Rakov Skocjan - Ljubljana
On this final day we'll hike through the lush
greenery of Rakov Skocjan Regional Park and
marvel at the amazing natural stone bridges
hanging over the Rak River. Afterwards, we'll
return to Ljubljana for the culmination of
our adventure.

We
started with an early breakfast and were on
the road by 8:30AM. We stopped for a hike
outside Postojna at the Rakov Skocjan Regional
Park. It is a park with Karst landscape that
has caves. The first part of the hike was
in shade as we wound through a very dry pine
forest. Occasionally we would break into a
meadow with mounds made by voles. Eventually
we reached the caves.
|
Compared to what
we saw yesterday, these caves were small but
impressive in their own right. We wound our
way down to the first cave and walked through
it. It was less than 100m, but the temperature
dropped significantly and pushed air through
creating a pleasant cooling breeze in the
hot sticky air. On the other side of the cave
was another shorter cave. Walking through
that one took us to a place where we could
look up and see a fantastic natural bridge.
We climbed back out from the caves and headed
back to the van and Ljubljana.

| We parted ways with
our team and guides and went off to get some
lunch. After lunch many things were closed
so we headed back to the hotel to cool off.
At 4PM, we were back out to take the funicular
up to the castle. At the castle we climbed
to the top of the tower and had a complete
panoramic view of the city. After another
break from the heat, we found our Chinese
restaurant for dinner. It was a great end
to a memorable trip. |
