Acadia 2005 Trip
 Next Day

We decided to celebrate out first anniversary by returning to Bar Harbor, ME and Acadia National Park. We traveled from Cincinnati to Bangor on the evening of August 4, and to the park first thing August 5.

August 5, 2005 - Day 1

As we got to Acadia, we noticed to was foggy and the visibility was not very good. We choose to walk along the Ocean Path from Sand Beach to Otter Point. The trail is approximately 2 miles each way and follows the Park Loop Road. On the way, we passed Thunder Hole (which was lacking any thunder). The trail has many nice spots where you can duck off and see the ocean or scramble along the rocks.

After our warm up hike, we headed into Bar harbor proper to check in and get some lunch. Helene and Louie greeted us at Ullikana and we moved our bag up to Henry's room for the night. We then headed out in search of lunch and to schedule some activities. We ate lunch at the Quarterdeck and then moved on to schedule some sea kayaking.

As we headed through town, we couldn't help but notice a few changes. The park at the end of Maine Street was complete and had wonderful flowers and an arborway. In fact, Ullikana itself had done some improvements, adding a walkway with brick pavers in front of the house.

Our arrangements complete, we stopped for ice cream at CJ's on the main square. Then we made out way back to relax a bit before dinner. We continued our wanderings around 5pm and after making it down to the pier to look at Bar Island, we saw (and heard) weather coming in. We beat a hasty retreat back to Ullikana and had some cheese and crackers while we waited for the storm.

The thunder came and went with little fanfare and even less rain. We cleaned up and headed to Testa's for dinner. The food came out piping hot, but Howard's shrimp fra diavolo was even hotter. Two hours later his lips were still tingling from the spices. While the food was okay, we probably won't return as there are other restaurants we prefer.
