| August 6, 2005 - Day 2 |
|
|
| |
| Today's
breakfast at Ullikana: blueberry muffins, poached
nectarines, waffles with cranberries and raspberries
and 2 small scoops of vanilla frozen yogurt. |
| |
| Today
we did a half day kayak in Frenchman's Bay. We put
in at the bar and worked our way from Bar Island
to the other side of Sheep Porcupine. Saw a juvenile
bald eagle perched in a tree. At the end of the
island, we saw a seal pup that was really struggling.
We moved on to Burnt Porcupine and stopped for lunch
at Rum Key. On our crossing back from Rum Key, we
saw a small pod of harbor dolphins. We were led
by James, the cook from the west who is spending
his first summer in Bar Harbor. Interesting fact
about Bar Island - a gentleman named Rodick used
to have a fresh fish and mutton market on the island.
The fish were kept in pens in the ocean and he would
scoop one out and fillet it for your dinner. |
| |
| After
some relaxing, we wandered through town looking
for a piece of blueberry pie. Once sated, we went
to Bridge Street and checked out the progress of
low tide. Since it was mostly clear, we walked out
along the bar to Bar Island and back. When we got
back, it was time to clean up and attend the book
signing party the Helene was throwing for "Cecily's
Summer". We got to meet the author, illustrator,
and publisher. |
| |
| Following
the success of the signing, we retrieved our camera
gear and headed to Cadillac Mountain for sunset.
A few dozen pictures later, we witnessed a brilliant
sunset and all of the other tourists clapped when
the sun went down. Topped off the day with a house
veggie pizza at Rosalie's. |
