Australia Trip

As most people know, we decided to put off our honeymoon until November so we could go on the trip to Australia that sounded like a lot of fun. It was the AussieWalkabouts Platypus trip. One of our guides from our New Zealand trip in the president of the company, so we figured it would be a fun trip since we greatly enjoyed our New Zealand trip.

The following pages will describe our adventures in the land down under.... Most of the descriptions come from the journal Howard kept during the trip.

October 29, 30, 31 - Traveling to Australia
 Next Day

Off to a auspicious start. After Howard got home later than expected and hurried to pack, Teresa took us to the airport. On arrival at CVG, our car was randomly selected to be screened which consisted of popping the rear door so that they could "inspect." Less than 1 minute later we were laughing at the thoroughness of the TSA.

4:16:00 from CVG to LAX. No surprises, just an overhead light on Howard's side that didn't really work. We both napped a bit and arrived in LA for the long haul.

At LAX we closed the shops in the terminal one by one. They closed up until only Starbucks was left. Our plane was delayed slightly by the arriving crew from NY, but we didn't get out too late. Once airborne, we both passed out. Missed a rubber chicken dinner, but the stuffed snacks and water into the seat pockets. This was the long one 13:30:00 from LAX to SYD. Watched Spider Man 2, harry Potter 3 and the last 45 minutes of Dodgeball (well, Howard did while Kirsten watched the plane's progress on the map). No thrills. Qantas is nice, but cramped. On a long flight is's interesting to watch the people around you. Some sleep, some can't, but everyone is stuck there together.

Arrived in SYD on time. After clearing immigration and customs, we took the bus to the domestic terminal. Note to future travelers: it costs 4 AUD/person. As we exited customs, we were not sure where we were. In front of us was a McDonalds and a Krispy Kreme. Sorry -- no blue lights going off. We found a breakfast spot in the domestic terminal and are waiting for our last flight of the day. Destination: Brisbane.

Day 1 - Brisbane
On the flight from Sydney, we learned a new phrase - traffic cones = "witch hats". Excellent phrase. After cleaning up at the hotel we wandered out to the south bank park. Architecture reminded us of the national theatre in London. We had some food, relaxed, and slept. Tomorrow we meet the rest of the tour group and start the adventure.
