| Day 3: November 2 -
Montville to Noosa |

The caravan left the hotel around 9ish and made our way to Kondalilla National Park. We
hiked down to a waterfall which was not doing much falling - dry season. The hike down was nice. Walked through some younger growth forest but it
still huge red cypress and palm trees. On the way down we saw a small brown skink. He couldn't have been more than two or three inches long.
The plan was to swim at the bottom near the waterfall, but that was aborted when we saw how scummy the water was. We quickly changed plans and decided to jump
into a pool that we passed near the top. On our way back up, we found a 3-foot monitor lizard. Shortly after that we suited up and jumped into the waterhole.
The water was freezing but very refreshing.
Back at the top we piled into the van and headed off to our lunch spot. It was here that we discovered the strangling fig tree which starts high up on another
tree and works it's way down, choking and enveloping the host tree.
Looking at her watch, Amanda realized we were running late. We tore out of town on our way to Noose -- and our surfing lessons. One thousand roundabouts later
(Aussie's don't believe in traffic lights) we were at the beach. Everyone got a wetsuit and a training surfboard. The surfboards were foamy and easy to walk
with when they hit you on the head. Great fun! Lesson one was just catching a wave. We did that for about 15 minutes and then were instructed how to stand. Kirsten
was able to stand up and get a good ride on the first wave. It took Howard a few tries, but he got more than one lon ride into the shore. In the end, the
instructor mentioned to him that he should consider surfing because Howard seemed to do well. Who knows, maybe the next vacation.
Noosa is a surfing town that went cosmopolitan. There are lots of trendy shops and restaurants on Hendricks Street, the main drag. We will give one of the restaurants
a try tonight.
