Today's
breakfast at Ullikana: cinnamon raisin muffins, fresh raspberries and blueberries with a sour cream and grand marnier sauce, and
French scrambled eggs with a grilled tomato and fresh baguettes.
With so many opportunities that we can't take advantage of on the last day,
we decided to get up early and hike Day Peak. It is a short hike, but our trail book touts the views from the carriage road. Up and out to
the trail, we noticed it was cooler and foggier than the previous days. As we ascended the trail, the tendrils of fog clung to everything.
Clearly, this was not going to be a day for views. We completed the ascent quickly and stood at the summit soaking in the fog. It was a great,
if slightly spooky, experience.
The yellow disk of sun was muted by the fog as we started back down the carriage road. We found spots where the view would have been
outstanding, but alas, all was shrouded from view. We will do this trail again when there is no fog so we can see the views.
We swung back to Ullikana for breakfast and to clean-up before checking out to head back home.
As we had time to spare before our late afternoon flight from Bangor, we opted to drive the Park Loop Road rather than aimlessly wander
through the shops of Bar Harbor. Around 12:30pm with the loop complete, we headed back to the Pirates Cove mini-golf for another round, this
time on the Blackbeard's Challenge course. Kirsten prevailed this time, and even won a free game with her hole-in-one.
On the drive back to Bangor, we stopped at one of
the numerous lobster pounds for a nice lunch. Then
it was back to the airport for the trip back home
and back to the heat and humidity of Cincinnati.
Unfortunately, we couldn't take the beautiful Maine
weather with us! |
