Free Day in Bohinj
This is a day to experience one of the many
adventure sports available in Bohinj. One
of the most popular is canyoneering, a specialty
of this part of Slovenia. Other activities
include paddling a canoe around the lake or
exploring one of the many secluded beaches.
Mountain biking is also popular here if that's
your sport of choice. Or if you'd like to
take it easy, you can swim, relax on the beach,
or take a leisurely walk along the shore.
|
Today
was our rest day and we took the opportunity
to paddle around the lake in the morning.
Mom and Robin took a canoe, while Kirsten,
Dad and Howard were in kayaks. The kayaks
were difficult to control - after a few strokes,
they would spin first one way and then the
other. Dad gave up and joined Robin and Mom
in the canoe.
With much difficulty, we made it to the other
side of the lake. Boats spinning out of control,
we made our way from the nude beach to the
beach that the hotel has access to. We finally
docked our boats and headed out to lunch.
|
After lunch at the local pizza place, we hustled
ourselves to the cable car to the top of the Vogel
ski resort. The views of the valley and the
lake were spectacular. We walked around for
a while and then took drinks and snacks in
the shade overlooking the valley. Two hours
later we jammed into a packed cable car for
the ride down with a horde of tourists.

| Dinner was in the
next town (Stara Fuzina) and we hiked 5km along the lake on the trail Kirsten walked the day before
to get there. Once there, everyone else showed
up! They drove by car and we all sat together
and had wonderful goulash. |
