| Day 7: January 28, 2005 - St. John |

Our plan was to rent a
jeep for the day and explore the island. The rental
company picked us up at the lobby at 10am and we
went back to the office in town to complete the
paperwork. Then we were off! It was a brand new
Jeep Liberty with fewer than 5000 miles on it. Even
though it is set up like a normal car, they drive
on the left here. It didn't take Kirsten long to
adjust and we headed out the North Shore Road to
the beaches.
We wanted to stop at a bunch of beaches and find
one to swim/snorkel. The most popular choice was
Trunk Bay, but it was so crowded we didn't get out
of the jeep. We stopped at the next bay over (Cinnamon
Bay) and walked out to the very end of the beach
where we decided to take a swim. The tide was very
high, leaving only a few feet of beach, but we waded
in anyway and happily bobbed among the waves on
our own private strip of beach.
After toweling dry, we jumped back into the jeep
and headed out for the old sugar plantation. We
took note of all the trials we passed so on the
next trip we could do some hiking. We turned around
at the sugar plantation and crossed the centerline
of the island to Coral Bay. Along the way, we stopped
at this great little beach side restaurant called
Miss Lucy's and had the best chicken roti's!
Looking at the time, we turned around and headed
back to the hotel. After swimming out to the trampolines,
Howard bounced around until it was time to hit the
showers.
Dinner was a celebration of the week as well as
a bon voyage - everyone headed home the next day. |
