Thanks to the quirks of airline reservation systems, we had another 2 days in the Caribbean. We started the day on St. John with an early trip
to Hawksnest beach with the hope that the surf of the previous day had subsided. No such luck. The bay was a little calmer, but still too rough to snorkel.
After checking out of the hotel, we drove to the
car ferry dock and waited for the Mister B to come
pick us up. In a switch from the drive over, they
had everyone drive on and back off. Since we were
near the stern, we got to spin the car on the deck
and drive into St. Thomas.
We dropped our bags at the hotel and went off to explore the island. Our first stop was Magen's Bay. It is a very pretty and well protected bay were everyone goes to swim.
The water was crystal clear and warm. From the bay we forced the Focus to climb to Mountaintop - the highest point on the island. To get to the observation deck, we had
to walk through a mini-mall! Tourism abounds on St. Thomas. The views were nice and you could clearly see both St. John and Tortola. We were pretty tired of driving the twisty
roads, so we headed back to the hotel for a cooling splash in the pool.
Dinner: Agave Terrace; Shared an arugula and mushroom salad; Howard - Mahi Mahi with island spices and a mango teriyaki dressing over snap peas and sweet potatoes; Kirsten -
pan seared scallops with garlic mashed potatoes and snap peas; Dessert - Howard had Key Lime Pie |
