Our last full day of vacation began with a snorkel at Coki Beach. Our strategy of getting up early paid off - we were the only non-locals at
the beach and those folks only numbered five.
We were instantly swarmed by a huge school of sargent majors and yellow tail jacks. They would come right up to us and follow us as we covered the reef near Coral World.
We saw a large jellyfish, about 1 foot in diameter, near the surface just hanging out and slowly pulsating its way around the coral. The surf and current was strong, but
we made our way across the small bay to another patch of coral. There were a lot of soft corals and plenty of parrotfish and grunts
moving about for lunch. We made our way over a garden of staghorn corals with our sargent major and jack friends. Then they were gone, replaced by a small school of bait
fish and there were juvenile barracudas swimming at the surface. Then, about 15 feet below us, we saw a 3 foot barracuda calmly lazing on the bottom with his mouth open
and small fish cleaning his menacing front tooth.
After drying off, we headed back to the hotel where we staked out some chairs in the shade and passed a pleasant afternoon reading and people watching. We figured we should
relax for at least some of our otherwise active vacation.
Dinner: East End Cafe; Howard - grilled chicken
